The average cost of a UK wedding is £16000! That's a HUGE amount of money. Some people chose to remortgage to pay for it, or take out a loan or slap it on credit cards - but there are simpler options - the main one being to cut the cost.

Cut the cost of food at the wedding reception

Rather than start early and keep the guests fed and watered all day and evening start later and you'll spend less on food and drink.

If you'd like to have an arlier wedding then why not have a private meal for the immediate family and then a barbq or later spread for everyone else. Mind you don't leave guests with no where to go for a couple of hours though.

Getting married midweek

You'll save money on venue hire! So shop around and see what the difference is!

Cut wedding dress costs

Try retailers for discount dresses, or even ebay. Making your own dress is almost always cheaper too. If you're clever you cna get something which you'll be able to wear aagin.

Flowers can cost a fortune

Do you need huge flower arrangements on the tables at the reception? Or something simple? See if you can share church flower costs with other couples getting married. Grow your own flowers? Or perhaps your grandparents do, ask if they'd provide cut flowers and you could save a fortune.

Do you have a mate with a fancy car who'd love to let you use it for your wedding day trip to church? Maybe you have a friend who does nails who'd love to do your wedding nails? Do you have a friend who's got a catering business? Don't push people though - a big discount might not be possible and you shouldn't expect anything from people.

Shop around for cheap deals on caterers, bands and photographers, hairdressers and florists.

Your local higher education college might have students desperate to try out their skills. Be aware though they wont' have years of experience but can still be skilled and able.
