Low cost weddings
Whether you have a very small budget or just don't want to waste loads
of money on your wedding then we hope our ideas will save you some cash.
It isn't being mean looking at ways to economise at your wedding. Its
sensible not to spend a silly amount of money on one day, especially
when there are so many other demands on our money these days. Its often
the case that one or both partners have been married before and so don't
feel the need for a hugely extravagant day.
Send us your hints on saving money. If you're having a wedding on the cheap then consider the following:
- Getting married during the week rather than on a Saturday is cheaper
apparently.
- Get married in a register office
How much does this cost? See the official government site for more
info
- Find a cheap hall to have a reception at - local village hall, church
hall etc or even pubs who have function rooms will be cheaper than
hotels.
- Decorate the church and reception yourself. Can be hard work though!
- Have your reception outside maybe a garden party or BBQ. Decorate
the garden with tea lights, fairy lights and balloons.
- buy a plain undecorated cake - decorate it yourself
- Buy a bridesmaids dress rather than wedding dress much cheaper
- Get disposable cameras for the guests rather than a proper photographer.
- Make your own stationery. Or find a stationery designer who will
stick to a budget.
- Buy flowers from a local market and arrange them yourself.
- Cater the reception yourself and have a cold buffet.
- Reception saving money tips
Limit the number of people. Buy a wedding dress which you can wear
at the reception.
Keyboard player rather than band or even DJ (You might know someone!)
- get guests to pay for their own drinks after the first round
- Buy white shoes in the sale in advance.
- Get parent to drive you to church. You can decorate the car yourself.
- Look on auctions for dresses. Or buy a pattern and make the dress
-or get a friend to do this for you.
- Make your own cake.
- Plastic and paper cutlery, plates, glasses, tablecloth and napkins
all in white with the candles and napkins coloured to match your flowers
perhaps
- Find a friend with a lot of flowers in their garden!
